(Mallotus discolor)

Yellow Kamala is a small to medium rainforest tree found along the Australian east coast from northern NSW to about Townsville. The species is particularly common as a wide shrub in beach dunes where it responds to the wind and salt by forming a sculpted shape nested against the dune.

Regular flowering followed by production of fleshy yellow berries which are eaten by fig birds and fruit pigeons, ensures that Yellow Kamala is widely distributed as a seedling into coastal gardens and along the coastal dunes. Other Mallotus species perform similar services further north and west around the Australian coastline.
